May 14, 2008:
A serviced office specialist firm has acquired The Office Suites Company from Old Mutual Property Group.
This deal will see it add two well-established business centres comprising 4,800sq m of prime office space in Claremont (Cape Town) and Parktown (Johannesburg) to its portfolio.
The transaction is significant for Habitaz, which has recently launched 1,800sq m of fully serviced office space in the landmark Convention Tower on Cape Town's Foreshore, complementing its Bryanston facility in northern Johannesburg which has around 100 work spaces and over 300 individual users.
"This transaction will give us a presence close to the Johannesburg CBD with excellent access to banks, government departments and other important institutions. In Cape Town, the Claremont facility will give us excellent exposure to the major business node in the southern suburbs where several companies have their national or regional headquarters," says Habitaz managing director, Andre Sharpe, adding that the Parktown facility it has acquired was the first serviced office option in South Africa back in 1987.
Habitaz, whose offices comprise fully serviced and furnished facilities, including wireless internet, a reception area, business centre, café, meeting rooms, office suites and "hot-desking" work areas, will be investing more than R1,2m in upgrading its newly acquired spaces.
"We will upgrade the new facilities to accommodate mobile workers," says Sharpe.
As a result of the deal, Habitaz will expand its footprint to four ideally located serviced office facilities in the country's two major cities, thereby reducing its geographic risk.
Habitaz enables its facility users to choose from a wide array of workspace options ranging from a pay-per-use GreenCard right through to more traditional lease agreements.
