A new, 22-suite luxury hotel and conference centre is to be established in Fish Hoek following the acquisition of the landmark Calders Kings building, adjacent to the beach, by Zevenwacht Properties.
The building, which was run as a hotel by the Salvation Army, has been standing empty for 18 months and has fallen into disrepair. It will be refurbished utilising the existing sound structure to create a more modern appearance in keeping with the prime position.
According to Harold Johnson of Zevenwacht Properties, the building's position at the entrance to Fish Hoek's famous beach lends itself to a development of the highest standard.
"We will convert it into a high quality hotel with conference facilities to attract regular visitors to Fish Hoek," said Johnson. "We expect this to have a positive spin-off on the town as it will obviously create new job opportunities and will also benefit existing businesses. All food and beverage requirements will be outsourced to local service providers and, wherever possible, we will use local companies for the provision of services and daily operating needs."
Zevenwacht Properties was behind the development of the Simon's Town Waterfront and Quayside Hotel which injected several million into Simon's Town's economy each year. "It is of interest that many countrywide delegates who attended conferences at Quayside subsequently returned to the town on holiday with their families, some even buying properties in the area," added Johnson. "We believe that the development of Calders Kings is likely to create a similar trend in Fish Hoek."
