Construction‚ mining and engineering group Basil Read says it has secured two projects together worth more than R400m.
It said on Monday that the first project‚ awarded to its Basil Read Civils unit by national power utility Eskom over 20 months‚ was for two phases of the excess coal stockyard at Eskom’s new Medupi coal-fired power station.
The project comprises 965‚000m³ of bulk earthworks‚ 437‚000m³ of layer works and 1.1-million square metres of geosynthetic installation.
The second project‚ the N8 Kloofeind Haldon road contract in the Free State‚ was awarded to Basil Read Roads by the South African National Road Agency.
The 20-month project will start this week and involves the rehabilitation of 10km of the N8‚ including pavement strengthening‚ road widening and drainage improvements.
