Jhb Featured At London Global Expo

Johannesburg was featured prominently as one of ten cities at a distinctive Global Cities exhibition in London, says Ronald Ennik, managing director of the Pam Golding Properties' Gauteng division. This was possible as a result of the property group's membership of Savills International.
"Johannesburg is one of just 10 of the world's leading in-focus cities currently on show at the upmarket Tate Modern exhibition and art centre in the UK capital. The others are Cairo, Istanbul, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Mumbai, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Tokyo," says Ennik.
"Sponsored by Savills, the Global Cities exhibition, which runs from now until the end of August and which is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors, focuses on Johannesburg and the other nine cities through five thematic visual art and architectural lenses – speed, size, density, diversity and form," says Ennik.
"Exhibited artworks that explore conditions in Johannesburg effectively open up a window into the heart and soul of what is not only the most advanced and dynamic city in Africa but also the continent's financial, commercial and industrial capital," he adds.
The exhibition highlights Johannesburg as a city with a current urban population of
3,2-million – which is predicted to grow to 15-million by 2015.
A major feature of the show is a comparison by Savills of the current real estate values in the 10 cities showcased, which shows that the average residential price in Johannesburg is 1 776 Euros per square metre ($2 400) compared with 8 009 Euros per square metre ($10 667) in London. This makes South Africa the fifth most expensive of the 10 cities for residential property.
However, South Africa is the cheapest of the 10 when it comes to office space. Prime office rental values in South Africa are featured at the exhibition at 128 Euros ($173) per square metre in Johannesburg compared with 1 901 Euros ($2 570) in London – the most expensive of the 10 cities for both residential and office space.
