Casino moving to Richards Bay

Strong upward economic growth in Richards Bay is behind the decision to relocate and enlarge the Tusk Umfolozi Casino, currently situated in Empangeni.

"Richards Bay is experiencing an unprecedented boom within all sectors. The expanded John Ross Highway is forging along, the Broadwalk Shopping Centre expansion is nearing completion, four major residential developments around the city are being completed, plans for a new entertainment complex near Medway will add to the existing expansion at the Small Craft Harbour, huge port plans are reaching fruition, and industrial land prices have risen 100% within the last two years due to burgeoning demand," says Cliff Bell, business development & marketing manager for Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (IDZ).

"The RBIDZ alone has 29 industrial projects worth some R6bn, set to follow the lead of TATA, which is in the process of building a R650m Ferro-chrome plant within the newly acclaimed fifth site of the RBIDZ, in Alton North. The construction period of the plant is expected to conclude around mid-2008."

In addition, he says another 50 projects worth around R10bn have been identified, including "major industrial brown and green-field projects such as the planned Alf3 plant and dry dock".
