OR TAMBO International Airport will today take another step closer to being construction-free and fully prepared for next year’s Soccer World Cup when the airport’s new departures hall is opened.
The departures hall will combine both domestic and international flights, and South African Airways will from today handle all of its departures from the new terminal.
The airline hopes that by using the same facilities to process international and domestic flights it will streamline its operations .
The terminal, to be renamed Terminal A, will incorporate the airport’s existing international departures terminal and the new central terminal building, which was partially opened in September .
The completion of the new departures hall follows the opening of the R500m multistorey parking extension last month. The parking facility adds 5300 parking bays on seven levels to the airport precinct’s 5000 bays.
Meanwhile, the Gautrain station and link to Sandton is nearing completion and construction on a new City Lodge hotel will begin shortly.
