Metrorail operations in Pretoria suspended

Johannesburg - Operations at Metrorail's Eerste Fabrieke and Pienaarspoort stations in Pretoria were still suspended on Monday morning, a spokesman said. Spokesman Sibusiso Ngomane said operations at the two stations were suspended on Saturday due to "crime and lawlessness".
"A risk assessment exercise of the operations as well as the criminal incidents of the past week left Metrorail with no option but to indefinitely suspend services in the area," he said on Monday.
Last week, the Public Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) said a train driver was forced to make an unscheduled trip at gunpoint.
On October 12, a security guard and a commuter were shot and wounded on a train when a conductor asked to see tickets at Pienaarspoort, prompting Prasa to consider suspending operations.
"It is impossible for Metrorail to continue operations without compromising the safety and security of its staff and commuters," Ngomane said.
