The new 44-suite accommodation block at the four-star Shelley Point Hotel on the Cape West Coast, 170 km north of Cape Town, will be officially opened on 1 May 2010. Vanessa Northing, Marketing Director for Dale Capital, now a major shareholder in the project, has said that this addition will position the hotel in “a whole new ballpark as regards conferencing and functions”.
This will mean the new hotel, with a total of 88 suites, will be able to accept conference and other groups of up to 160 people. Already, said Northing, the conferencing and functions provide 60% or more of the turnover at Shelley Point and, although the tourist intake is increasing month by month, conferences and functions numbers are also rising.
The hotel achieved a 56% occupancy rating over the holiday period which she says Dale Capital regards as highly satisfactory for a venue that went into full functioning only from October last year.
Half of the suites are simplex, half duplex, giving the new complex three above-ground levels and a parking basement which links in with that of the first block. All units have balconies and many have views of the Britannia Bay coastline and the golf course.
The décor has a nautical flavour and each unit has 60sqm of sandstone tiles, a king-sized double bed and a living room couch which can be converted into a bed. All are equipped with plasma screen TVs and kitchenettes. The bathrooms have Meranti screens which can fold back making the TVs visible from the baths, some of which have a spa bath facility as well.
The accommodation blocks have a private swimming pool and small alfresco bistro area with a kitchen. This will serve light meals such as salads, quiches, designer sandwiches, kebabs, smoothies, cocktails, wines and bar drinks.
