The Rise And Rise Of Namibia
2012-05-21 · International Property News
Several new modern shopping centre developments and extensions have mushroomed across Namibia.
Development partners including Stark Property Development businessmen Steven Skoppelitus and Paul Shipoke as well as TransNamib have collaborated on the retail project of the Bahnhof Square and Lifestyle Centre, a new mixed-use development in the coastal town of Swakopmund. The billion-dollar project originated after the realisation of the area's need for a development of such a nature and has already attracted potential investors, especially from South Africa.
The basic design of the centre is in place and negotiations with potential tenants and financing partners for the estimated 180 000m² Bahnhof Square and Lifestyle Centre are under way and should be finalised by the end of May. The development will be situated on two open properties owned by TransNamib, including the Swakopmund railway station, and will feature doctors practices, offices, restaurants and a shopping centre, as well as light industrial warehousing and residential apartments. Construction of Bahnhof Square and Lifestyle Centre is expected to start by August this year and to be completed in 2017.
Apart from this exciting development, there's the N$1,1-billion Grove shopping centre development in Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek. A joint venture between Safland Property Services Namibia and Demushuwa Property Developers, the 55 000m² Grove shopping centre development forms part of the planned mixed-use 220 000m² Hilltop Estate, which will incorporate the mall, a medical centre, a hotel, offices and medium-to-high-density residential units. The development is expected to be completed by November 2013. Safland is also extending the Shoprite Centre in Otjiwarongo, from 5 700m² to 8 000m². The centre's name is being changed to Otjiwarongo Town Square.
