THE North West government has defended its handling of the Tshedimosetso Thusong Service Centre, but has acknowledged a “few challenges”.
Responding to Sowetan’s enquiry about its proposed interventions, North West provincial spokesman Lesiba Kgwele said the local inter-sectoral steering committee will meet next week to discuss the revival plan of the centre with the departments.
He also said the committee at the centre was “planning interventions” to get the centre to become fully functional.
“The centre is owned by the Communal Property Association (CPA), hence the municipality requested the CPA to take the resolution of transferring the centre to Ventersdorp local municipality in order to allow the municipality to apply for funding to renovate and expand the centre,” he said.
Kgwele said they were still “waiting for the municipality to provide clarity” on the R119700 proposed budget of 2009 “as operational budget is [the municipality’s] responsibility”.
Asked how much has been spent since the centre’s launch, he said “R8500 was spent by the Government Communication and Information System on branding and marketing services rendered at the centre”.
On why a temporary water tank had not been installed, Kgwele said: “Local municipality [is] to engage the district municipality on the installation of a Jojo tank and the post for the admin clerk/centre manager is currently advertised.”
