R10bn Insimbi Ridge logistics precinct under construction at Cato Ridge

2026-10-02 · KwaZulu-Natal

Construction is under way at Insimbi Ridge, a R10 billion logistics precinct at Cato Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal, with heavy equipment on site as of June 2026. It is being developed by Assore SA PropCo and the Rail Development Corporation (RDC), and was launched in November 2025.

What is being built

The precinct forms part of a roughly 500-hectare site on the Durban–Gauteng freight corridor. Phase 1 comprises about 33,000 m² of logistics and industrial facilities, anchored by an FPT Group cold-storage and warehousing facility. The wider aim is to provide inland staging, warehousing and intermodal freight capacity for cargo moving between Durban and inland markets.

Rail link

The development is planned to connect to the national rail network through a proposed private siding linking it to Cato Ridge Station, according to RDC project lead Sibusisiwe Nodada. Operations are expected to begin in 2027.

Why it matters

Moving freight inland from the Port of Durban depends heavily on the N3. A privately funded precinct with rail access is aimed at easing that pressure and giving occupiers modern space along the corridor. For space available today, browse industrial property to let.
