Retailing success leads to R107m extension at Bayside Centre
2006-04-06
The extension work on the shopping centre, which is jointly owned by listed property loan stock company Atlas Properties and Old Mutual, is due for completion by November, according to the latest Old Mutual Property Profile report.
Brent Wiltshire, business development executive at Old Mutual Properties, says the extension will attract new retailers to Bayside and enhance the “merchandise offering to shoppers” in a rapidly growing area.
The Bayside project involves the addition of 5600m² of retail space onto the Woolworths entrance in a part of the car park, and two decks of parking to be built above the mall.
The extension will also provide a centre court to house restaurants and coffee shops. Two new lifts will also be installed.
Old Mutual Properties says sales by retailers at Bayside grew 15% last year, and were ahead of estimates on the increase in retail sales nationally. The group says announcements on new retailers for the centre will be made over the next few months as leases are finalised.
