Commission to oppose merger
2009-08-19 · Property Market Reports
The Competition Commission will oppose a merger of Massmart subsidiary Masscash and family business Finro at the Competition Tribunal today, maintaining this will likely prevent or lessen competition in the wholesale and grocery market in the Port Elizabeth area. Masscash, a wholesaler of merchandise, wants to buy 75 percent of Finro, a wholesaler to smaller traders. The commission said a merged entity could raise prices and reduce quality and service levels.
