Exemplar to open Leratong City and Moletsi Mall on consecutive days at the end of October

Two new shopping centres are due to open within 24 hours of each other at the end of the month. Exemplar REITail and its development partner McCormick Property Development (MPD) are scheduled to open Leratong City in Kagiso, Gauteng, on 29 October 2026, and Moletsi Mall outside Polokwane in Limpopo on 30 October. Together with iTonka Square in Springs, which opened on Heritage Day, Exemplar CEO Jason McCormick says the group will have opened more than 80,000 m² of retail space by the end of October.
Leratong City: a mall at the centre of a new town
Leratong City is the first major piece of a R5 billion, 350-hectare mixed-use development in Mogale City, across the road from Leratong Hospital. The site sits where routes from Mogale City, Soweto, Randfontein, Merafong, Roodepoort and Florida meet. The wider plan, developed with the Gauteng government, Mogale City Local Municipality and Trendville, includes around 15,000 housing units, schools, a private hospital, parks, transport nodes and government service offices, phased in over 10 to 15 years.
The mall itself is a regional centre of roughly 35,000 m², designed by MDS Architecture. It is triple-anchored by Shoprite, Pick n Pay and SuperSpar, with more than 100 stores including a banking court, fashion and health and beauty retailers such as Dis-Chem and Clicks. A 3.3 MW rooftop solar plant of 5,376 panels is part of the build.
Moletsi Mall: convenience retail for Limpopo
Moletsi Mall, north-west of Polokwane, is a smaller convenience centre. Its first phase is about 10,000 m², with a second phase taking the total past 14,000 m². The Shoprite group anchors the centre, and other tenants due to trade from opening day include Clicks, Capitec, Pepkor brands, Mr Price and KFC.
What comes next
Exemplar has two further KwaZulu-Natal centres in the pipeline for the first quarter of 2027: Ntuzuma Mall and a centre in KwaMashu. The group's strategy is to build and own convenience-led retail in township and peri-urban areas that have historically been underserved by formal shopping centres, and it has been buying as well as building, adding Vosloorus Crossing and a stake in the Steelpoort Retail Precinct earlier this year.
New centres like these tend to pull smaller retailers, franchisees and service businesses into the surrounding area. If you are looking for shop space near either node, browse commercial property in Gauteng or commercial property in Limpopo.
